Memories of Times with Dad

Memories of Times with Dad represents four years of memories of times Eva Peck and her husband, Alex
spent with her father, Jindrich Degen, after they returned to Australia from having lived overseas for many years. In poems and letters, it celebrates a transformed relationship that over a few short years has gone from being cool and reserved to becoming loving and caring. This window into a family rejoicing is captured in poems and letters.

The poems fall under the categories of Home, Local Outings, Eating Out, and Trips. The letters are arranged chronologically.

Hot Summer Days

The sun is nice and bright,
All things a lovely sight.
Temperature is high,
Cloudless is the sky.

For a walk it’s far too hot,
We’d be back totally shot.
We decide to go and swim,
And it’s not just on a whim.

So we all jump in the pool,
And enjoy the pleasant cool.
We swim and splash, without a clash;
The time goes by as quick as flash.

After a while, out we go,
To exercise nice and slow.
Then, before long, it’s off to lunch,
To make us a contented bunch!
